Packers rookie RB MarShawn Lloyd to make NFL debut vs. Colts

Packers rookie RB MarShawn Lloyd is expected to make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Colts.

Sunday could be a big day for the 2024 rookie class of the Green Bay Packers. Not only will second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper and fourth-round pick Evan Williams likely see bigger roles on defense, but rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd — who was inactive in Week 1 — is expected to make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Lloyd was listed as questionable on the final injury report of Week 2. He injured his hamstring in the preseason opener on Aug. 10 and has been out or limited ever since.

Unlike the opener, the Packers did not elevate a running back from the practice squad for Week 2, opening the door for Lloyd to be active on Sunday.

With Lloyd inactive in the opener, the Packers got 84 yards on 16 carries from Josh Jacobs and 46 yards on four carries from backup Emanuel Wilson. Ellis Merriweather was elevated to be the No. 3 running back.

It’s unclear if Wilson or Lloyd will be the No. 2 option behind Jacobs on Sunday, but Wilson — who was impressive in the opener — is the better bet.

The Packers made Lloyd a third-round pick in the 2024 draft. On Sunday, the Packers could get contributions from at least five of their first six picks. Jordan Morgan will rotate in and out at right guard, Javon Bullard will start at safety, Cooper will get more snaps at linebacker, Lloyd might get a designed touch or two and Williams is expected to have a role at safety.

Inactive players will be announced around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. While Jordan Love is likely to be inactive with a knee injury, Lloyd is not expected to join him.
