Becoming a first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers allowed rookie cornerback Eric Stokes to make good on a promise he made his grandma over a decade ago.

On his official Instagram account, Stokes documented the process of surprising his grandma with a new home.

Stokes wrote this caption: “Since I’ve been 14 years old I promised my grandma id get her out of the projects, where she’s lived for over 30 years, and into her dream home. Words can’t describe how good it feels to finally check this off the list!! Forever luv grandma”

After revealing the surprise, the two embraced with a hug, and Stokes said, “I told you I got you.”

The Packers made Stokes – a native of Covington, Georgia – the 29th overall pick in the 2021 draft. His rookie contract included a signing bonus of over $6 million and has a total value of nearly $12 million.

At least part of the money he’s earned as a first-round pick in the NFL is going to helping out immediate family.

The Packers liked Eric Stokes the person just as much as Eric Stokes the football player.

“As we got to know him through this (draft) process, he just fit our profile, of not only a player but a person,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said on draft night.
