Packers RB Josh Jacobs, LB Edgerrin Cooper missing practice Thursday with new injuries

The Packers are without RB Josh Jacobs and LB Edgerrin Cooper because of new injuries suffered at Wednesday’s practice.

The Green Bay Packers are giving a few veterans a rest day on Thursday, the ninth practice of training camp, but Matt LaFleur’s team does have a few additions to the injury report. Running back Josh Jacobs and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper are both out on Thursday due to new injuries.

Jacobs, the team’s big addition at running back, is out with a groin injury, while Cooper, a second-round pick, has a hip injury.

Cooper dropped out of practice on Wednesday and didn’t return. It’s unclear when Jacobs was injured. The severity of the injuries is also currently unknown.

It’s possible Jacobs and Cooper could miss Saturday’s Family Night practice at Lambeau Field.

Expect A.J. Dillon, MarShawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson to get more looks with the first-team offense with Jacobs out. Cooper was getting some first-team looks early in camp but was mostly with the second-team defense behind Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson at linebacker.

Rookie cornerback Don Callis, who was signed Tuesday, is also out on Thursday with a new hamstring injury.

Offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, edge rushers Preston Smith and Rashan Gary, defensive lineman Kenny Clark and tight end Tyler Davis are taking veteran rest days.

Among those still out with injuries on Thursday are cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring) and tight end Tucker Kraft (PUP, pec). Center Josh Myers is out again because of a personal matter.
