Packers QB Kurt Benkert throws TD pass to Jace Sternberger vs. Jets

The Packers took a 14-10 lead over the Jets on a touchdown pass from Kurt Benkert to Jace Sternberger.

Two players on the roster bubble connected for a touchdown that gave the Green Bay Packers a short-lived first-half lead over the New York Jets on Saturday at Lambeau Field.

Third-string quarterback Kurt Benkert found third-year tight end Jace Sternberger in the corner of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown with 3:27 left in the first half. The score put the Packers up 14-10, although the Jets immediately responded with a quick scoring drive following a long kickoff return.

The Packers’ marathon scoring drive went 81 yards over 19 plays and took 10:19 off the clock.

Benkert completed eight passes on the drive. The Packers converted five third downs and one fourth down.

Sternberger, needing to impress this preseason, found some space in the corner of the end zone, and Benkert delivered a perfect pass.

Benkert has completed 11 of his first 14 passes. Sternberger has two catches for five yards and the touchdown.

Rookie Kylin Hill opened the scoring for the Packers with a 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
