The Green Bay Packers bounced back during Thursday’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens, and quarterback Jordan Love believes his team — especially on offense — is ready to go for Week 1.
While coach Matt LaFleur is still determining if Love or any other starters will play in Saturday’s preseason finale, the Packers quarterback believes he’s had enough work — through one preseason start, two joint practice sessions and multiple weeks of training camp vs. his own defense — to be ready for the regular season.
Bring on the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Love.
“I like where we’re at offensively, and I think we’re ready to go, get the season started,” Love said Thursday. “I feel like as a team, as a whole, we’re definitely ready. It’s been a great training camp. Definitely got better every day…I think we’re definitely ready for Week 1.”
How can he tell? Love said the Packers aren’t making many mental mistakes at this point in camp. Flying around and playing fast during a “good day against a great defense” like the Ravens certainly helps build confidence that the Packers are regular season ready on offense.
Love said the Packers were able to lock in and focus on the “details” on Thursday after a “sloppy” joint practice last Friday in Denver.
Facing one of the NFL’s best defenses from a year ago, Love was well protected behind the starting offensive line — he described the blocking on Thursday “fantastic.” As a result, the passing game was productive both in the red zone and two-minute situations. Love threw four touchdown passes in the red zone — with three different players catching touchdown passes — and led the Packers No. 1 offense to a game-tying field goal in the two-minute.
There doesn’t appear to be a big need for Love to play against the Ravens in the preseason finale on Saturday. In fact, LaFleur and the Packers could use the snaps to evaluate an unclear picture at backup quarterback behind Love.
As of Friday, the Packers are two weeks out from going to Brazil and playing the Eagles in the season opener. Regardless of whether he plays Saturday, Love is ready for Sept. 6.
