Packers president shoots down idea of blaze orange or camo alternate uniforms

Don’t hold your breath waiting for a blaze orange or camouflage alternate uniform for the Green Bay Packers, at least under Mark Murphy’s watch.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for a blaze orange or camouflage alternate uniform for the Green Bay Packers, at least under Mark Murphy’s watch.

In his monthly question and answer post at the team’s official site, Murphy shot down the idea of a hunting-themed alternate uniform, even with the NFL relaxing the rules on having alternate colored helmets.

“I realize that hunting is big in Wisconsin, but I’m not so sure about a blaze orange or a camo jersey,” Murphy, the team president, wrote.

The idea might be too non-traditional for the Packers, a team that has leaned into its long history for alternate uniforms, but it would likely make a big slice of the fanbase happy (and possibly a bigger slice of the fanbase unhappy, however). Thousands and thousands of Packers fans pile into Lambeau Field wearing blaze orange or camo winter clothing each year.

But the team won’t be replicating the look on the field.

However, the Packers will have a new alternate uniform for the 2021 season. Murphy confirmed it will be revealed later this summer – a total guess here, but possibly at the Shareholders Meeting before training camp – and worn for one game this season.

In recent years, the Packers have worn various styles of blue and gold throwbacks from the 1920s.

Murphy said the new alternates will have a shade of green involved, so expect the uniforms to be another blast from the past. The large hunting community in Wisconsin will have to keep waiting for the Packers to adopt a blaze orange or camo look at Lambeau Field.
