Packers officially claim FB John Lovett off waivers

The Packers officially added John Lovett, a fullback or H-back option, to the team’s roster. He was claimed off of waivers.

The Green Bay Packers officially have a new fullback.

The team announced the addition of John Lovett, who was claimed off of waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs. Wednesday’s announcement confirms Lovett passed a physical before joining the official roster.

A college quarterback and undrafted free agent out of Princeton, Lovett spent his rookie season in 2019 with the Chiefs. He injured his shoulder during the preseason and was on injured reserve the entire regular season.

The Packers released fullbacks Elijah Wellman and Jordan Jones last week, making Lovett the only player at the position on the roster. It’s possible Lovett could make the 53-man roster as an H-back option in Matt LaFleur’s offense.

GM Brian Gutekunst said this week that the Packers attempted to sign Lovett, who had an official pre-draft visit with the Packers, as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 draft.

Lovett will wear No. 45, Danny Vitale’s old number.
