Packers offense: First in points, PFF grade, DVOA

Traditional statistics and analytics agree: the Green Bay Packers have the best offense in football through the first 14 weeks of 2020.

Traditional statistics and analytics agree: the Green Bay Packers have the best offense in football through the first 14 weeks of 2020.

Not only do the Packers rank first in the NFL in points per game (31.5) and points per drive (2.97), but the Packers are the highest graded offense overall at Pro Football Focus and first in offensive DVOA at Football Outsiders.

The volume statistics favor the Packers.

They are first in passing touchdowns (39) and overall touchdowns (52). The Packers also rank first in time of possession per drive (3:14), passer rating (119.7), passing touchdown percentage (8.7), interception percentage (0.9), and adjusted net yards per passing attempt (9.0).

No team has a high overall passing grade at PFF.

Matt LaFleur’s team has been particularly good in situational football, ranking second in third-down conversion percentage (49.7) and first in red-zone touchdown percentage (77.1).

The Packers have avoided turnovers (9, first in NFL), sacks (14, second), and interceptions (4, first). Not surprisingly, they are first in the NFL in turnover percentage (6.0).

The Packers have an NFL-high 10 games with 30 or more points and three with 40 or more. The team is on pace to score 504 points, which would mark just the second time in franchise history the Packers have gone over 500 in a season (2011).

The only real threat to the Packers’ throne as the best offense is the Kansas City Chiefs, who rank first in yards per play, yards per drive and scoring percentage. The Packers are second in all three categories.
