Packers in the mix to host 2024 NFL draft

The city of Green Bay is one of the cities in the mix to host the 2024 NFL draft, according to Packers president Mark Murphy.

Green Bay Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy confirmed the city of Green Bay is in the mix to host the 2024 NFL draft.

The NFL will head to Cleveland for the 2021 draft, back to Las Vegas – the previously selected site of the 2020 draft, which had to be held virtually – in 2022 and then to Kansas City in 2023.

Green Bay is hoping to be the pick in 2024.

“This means that the league is now on the clock to select a city for the 2024 draft, for which Green Bay is among the cities vying,” Murphy wrote on Packers.com.

Green Bay was one of the cities working to get the bid in 2022, but the coronavirus pandemic canceled this year’s highly-anticipated live draft in Las Vegas, so the NFL countered by giving Vegas another shot in 2022.

The Packers have been developing the sprawling Titletown District over the last several years and the area will be nearly fully realized by 2024. A new expo center near Lambeau Field is expected to open next year, a key component to hosting a draft.

Competition for the 2024 bid could be fierce. Teams focused on the 2022 bid have now shifted focus to 2024. Cities such as Los Angeles and Minneapolis are expected to be in the mix.

Previously, the draft has been held in Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas and Nashville.
