Packers hiring former Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia as special teams coach

Rich Bisaccia is being hired to take on the task of fixing Packers special teams issues

Rich Bisaccia has landed. The man to took over as Raiders interim head coach and helped lead them on a late playoff run will be the next special teams coordinator for the Green Bay Packers according to. NFL media’s Ian Rapoport.

Prior to stepping into the head coaching role for the Raiders, Bisaccia has long been a highly respected special teams coordinator. He helped the Raiders to be one of the best special teams units int he league this season with All-Pro punter AJ Cole and Daniel Carlson having a career year as well.

That’s just what the Packers need. After a season that was done in by special teams disasters, the Packers understandably fired special teams coach Maurice Drayton after just one season on the job.

Their season-long special teams problems came to a head in the Divisional round playoff game against the 49ers. In that game alone, they had a field goal blocked, a punt blocked, and gave up a long kickoff return and lost 13-10 on their home field at Lambeau.

They need a complete rebuild on special teams and there’s no one better suited for that job than Bisaccia.
