Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jordan Morgan is expected to make his first career NFL start on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Per Bill Huber of SI.com, the Packers are moving left guard Elgton Jenkins to center to make up for the absence of Josh Myers, who is inactive with a wrist injury, and Morgan and Sean Rhyan will start at guard, based on pre-game warmups.
The Packers made Morgan the 25th overall pick in the 2024 draft. He’s played in five games while rotating in and out of the lineup with Rhyan at right guard.
Per Huber, Morgan is lining up at left guard during pre-game warmups. He’s never played an NFL snap at left guard but did play exclusively at left tackle during his collegiate years at Arizona.
Morgan dealt with a shoulder injury in training camp and missed out on a chance to win the starting job at right guard. He reinjured the shoulder in Week 2 and missed three games. Now, the Packers’ first-round pick will get a chance to start next to Rasheed Walker at left tackle.
Morgan has played 121 snaps this season. Per Pro Football Focus, Morgan has allowed three pressures (one hit, two hurries) across 62 pass-blocking snaps. He hasn’t been penalized.
Morgan played a season-high 38 snaps in Week 6 but has been used less in recent games, playing 13 snaps in Week 7 and 22 in Week 8. Rhyan has played better and better at right guard.
