Two of the Green Bay Packers’ top three draft picks in 2019 were selected by the Pro Football Writers Association to the All-Rookie Team.
Left guard Elgton Jenkins and safety Darnell Savage both earned spots on the team.
Jenkins, the 44th overall pick, joined Dalton Risner of the Denver Broncos at guard, while Savage, the 21st overall pick, joined Juan Thornhill of the Kansas City Chiefs at safety.
The Packers’ first pick, edge rusher Rashan Gary, was not selected. The 12th overall pick played a rotational role behind starters Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith.
Jenkins played in 15 games and made 14 starts at left guard. He took over as the full-time starter when Lane Taylor went down with a season-ending injury before Week 3. A collegiate center, Jenkins transitioned to guard and didn’t allow a single sack.
Savage, the first defensive back selected in the draft, immediately won a starting job during training camp. A speedy playmaker, Savage produced 55 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and five pass breakups over 14 starts.
GM Brian Gutekunst has selected at least one All-Rookie player in the first rounds of each of his first two drafts. Last year, first-round cornerback Jaire Alexander made the team. Alexander was the first Packers rookie since Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in 2014 to be named to the All-Rookie team.
This is the first year the Packers have placed two players on the All-Rookie Team since 2014, when both Clinton-Dix and center Corey Linsley were selected, and for the third time since 2009.
