The San Francisco 49ers have outscored the Green Bay Packers 50-0 in the first half of two games played between the two teams this season.
The 49ers used three rushing touchdowns from Raheem Mostert and another smothering effort on defense to race out to a 27-0 lead in the first half of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.
Back in November, the 49ers built a 23-0 lead en route to a 37-8 victory.
Once again, the Packers showed they weren’t in the same class as the top-seeded 49ers, who are now 30 minutes away from the Super Bowl.
Led by Mostert’s 160 rushing yards, the 49ers ran 22 times for 185 yards in the first half, and much of the damage came before first contact by a Packers defender. Mike Pettine’s defense had no answer for Kyle Shanahan’s run schemes and Mostert’s speed.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers played a part in two turnovers. A mishandled exchange with center Corey Linsley short-circuited a potential scoring drive, while an interception late in the half handed the 49ers seven more points.
Aaron Jones has nine carries for 49 yards and Allen Lazard caught two passes for 32 yards, providing a couple of limited bright spots for the Packers offense. But Rodgers has been sacked twice, and the offense is 0-for-4 on third down.
The defense is getting gashed by the run. Mostert averaged 11.6 yards per carry in the first half.
The Packers get the ball to start the second half. They’ll need to overcome a 27-point deficit to extend their season and advance to Super Bowl LIV.
