Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium eliminated the Green Bay Packers from contention for the No. 5 seed in the NFC playoff field, meaning Matt LaFleur’s team can only finish as the No. 6 or No. 7 seed.
The Packers are 11-5 and have clinched a spot in the postseason.
The two seedings available for the Packers: the No. 6 seed going on the road to play either the NFC South or NFC West, or the No. 7 seed going on the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card Round.
The Eagles clinched the NFC East title and the No. 2 seed on Sunday.
The loser of next Sunday’s showdown between the Vikings and Detroit Lions — which will determine the NFC North winner and No. 1 seed in the postseason — will end up being the No. 5 seed.
The final two seeds will be the Packers and either the Washington Commanders or Tampa Bay Buccaneers, depending on results to finish Sunday and in the season finale.
The Commanders can clinch the No. 6 seed with a win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night and a win over the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday.
Any loss by the Commanders and win by the Packers over the Chicago Bears next Sunday and the Packers will be the No. 6 seed.
The Commanders would need to lose to the Falcons and Cowboys and have the Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints and the Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers next Sunday to lose a playoff spot — which would position the Packers as the No. 6 seed and the Buccaneers as the No. 7 seed.
The Packers were the No. 7 seed last year but went on the road to beat the Cowboys in Dallas in the NFC Wild Card Round.
