If fans are allowed, Lambeau Field might wind up being only an eighth of the way full during the 2020 season.
According to Packers president Mark Murphy, the team is anticipating a seating capacity of around 10,000-12,000 during regular season games this season.
“It’s going to be a very different year in every way possible,” Murphy told the team’s official site. “But I think our priority is to make sure our players are safe, our staff is safe, and the most important thing is being able to play the games.”
The Packers and the 31 other NFL teams are attempting to navigate through the hurdles put in place by the coronavirus pandemic, which is still raging in the United States. One of the obvious precautions in play is limiting the number of fans in the stands.
Lambeau Field, one of the biggest stadiums by seating capacity in the NFL, typically holds over 81,000 fans.
The Packers have already eliminated the possibility of fans at training camp practices, the team’s Family Night Scrimmage at Lambeau Field and any home preseason games, given they aren’t canceled.
Murphy didn’t guarantee that games at Lambeau Field will even have fans during the regular season, leaving open the possibility that the historic venue will be empty for games in 2020.
