Pacers reported to hold interest in Andrew Wiggins

The Indiana Pacers could have interest in acquiring Andrew Wiggins.

Andrew Wiggins continues to be viewed as the most logical trade chip for the Golden State Warriors. The veteran wing has struggled throughout the season. As such, Wiggins lost his spot in the starting rotation, with rookie Brandin Podziemski appearing to move in front of him in the pecking order.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, who was speaking on the “No Cap Room” podcast, the Indiana Pacers are a team that’s been showing interest in potentially acquiring Wiggins. At his best, Wiggins is among the top three-and-d wings in the NBA, with his defense being a legitimate calling card. Given the Pacers’ high-level offense, adding some defensive pieces around Tyrese Haliburton makes sense.

“I keep hearing Andrew Wiggins’ name there,” Fischer said. “…I know Jonathan Kuminga was another Warriors player the Pacers have been keeping tabs on and calling the Golden State about – dating back to the last draft.”

Whether the Pacers have the type of player the Warriors are looking to add to their roster is a different story. Golden State is unlikely to favor any more young talent. Instead, they will want veterans with size.

Nevertheless, Wiggins’ long-term future in the Bay Area is in serious doubt. Of course, if he can figure things out and return to the player we saw during the Warriors run to the 2022 NBA championship, Golden State may have a change of heart. Unfortunately for the Warriors, that doesn’t seem to be a likely outcome at this stage of the season.
