The NIL (name, image and likeness) has quickly taken over the world of college sports.
There are plenty of massive deals for the top athletes and as time goes on, more and more players will hop on board.
The Pac-12 Conference recently entered a partnership with sports technology company Tempus Ex Machina, which is set to provide its FusionFeed technology in a collaboration with Twitter and Opendorse. This deal will allow Pac-12 student-athletes to get paid for posting their in-game highlights on Twitter.
Here’s a report from Pete Nakos of On3 Sports:
Come this fall on the West Coast, Pac-12 football players will be utilizing a new way to monetize their NIL. Athletes will be able to share their personal video highlights on Twitter postgame and receive income for their performance on the field.
It’s a first-of-its-kind product. There’s never been a program like this at any level of sports.
So, the Pac-12 is collaborating with Twitter, Opendorse and Tempus Ex to allow student-athletes the ability to monetize their highlights, and this is a revolutionary NIL deal for college sports.
As expected, Opendorse CEO Blake Lawrence is excited about this groundbreaking deal. Here’s what Lawrence told On3:
“It is true innovation and it’s new to all of sports and athlete media. Video highlights are kept off of lock and key,” Lawrence said. “This is something — we’ve got a breakthrough here.
This could be something that other conferences jump on board with, but for now, it is only for the Pac-12.
