Overwatch 2 had more than 35 million players in first month

Activision Blizzard’s hero shooter was plenty successful in October.

It’s looking as though Overwatch 2 has been a massive success thus far, with first-month concurrent player numbers soaring past expectations.

On Monday, Activision Blizzard released its third quarter financial results for 2022. The report states that over 35 million people played Overwatch 2 during its launch month in October. Many of those players were also new to the franchise, likely brought in by the sequel’s free-to-play model.

Furthermore, Overwatch 2‘s average daily play count was double that of the original game’s average. There were no exact numbers, but the staggering launch queues suggest that many people are indeed playing this game. Shocking, know!

These successes are almost despite Overwatch 2‘s myriad of release troubles. Be it distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, disabling popular heroes, or the ongoing custom mode controversies — Blizzard’s latest hasn’t had the smoothest launch. However, the company is committed to improving Overwatch 2. Plenty of significant changes are coming in Season 2, for instance.

Post-launch support is ramping up as well. Last week, Blizzard revealed Ramattra, a new tank hero coming out on Dec. 6, 2022. As with other Overwatch 2 heroes, you’ll have to grind out next season’s battle pass to unlock them, though.
