Outfielder Shaun Montoya will transfer from San Diego State to Kentucky

Former San Diego State outfielder Shaun Montoya is transferring to Kentucky.

Kentucky baseball will be replacing a lot of talent next year, including Nolan McCarthy who surprised some by choosing to transfer. They’re also losing some top talent to the MLB draft and will be looking to add good players for 2025. One addition will be outfielder Shaun Montoya.

Montoya comes to the Wildcats from San Diego State, where he played the last three seasons. The Senior outfielder posted a .327 batting average in 2024, with three homeruns and 17 RBIs. He also stole 10 bases.

With a career average of .306, Montoya has proven he can consistently get hits. He earned a nod on the All-Mountain West team in 2023, and should help replace some of the production the Cats are losing.

After making the College World Series for the first time ever this season, fans will expecting success to be the norm going forward. Adding quality transfers like Montoya will help them to accomplish these goals.
