The term “free transfer” is a bit of a misnomer, but there are still some relative bargains to be had on top players available as free agents this summer.
Some of the biggest names in the game will see their contracts expire at the end of the 2022-23 season, including reigning Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and reigning FIFA Best Men’s Player winner Lionel Messi.
These and other players won’t exactly be “free,” as bidding clubs will have to offer hefty contracts, but the opportunity to land them without paying a transfer fee will nonetheless be appealing.
