The Oklahoma Sooners so far have taken a massive jump in year three under [autotag]Porter Moser[/autotag]. The team once again had to hit the transfer portal to completely flip their roster from a season ago.
Several players either graduated or transferred themselves. But it’s not just the transfer players that have made a big difference in the growth we’ve seen this season. A big reason for that is also the development of guys who were on the team last year.
For example, last year, as a true freshman, [autotag]Otega Oweh[/autotag] played about 13 minutes per game and averaged 4.8 points per game. This year, he’s playing just over 25 minutes and is leading the team in scoring at 15.4 points per game.
He talked to reporters about how he’s been able to improve so much from year one to year two. “I’ve grown a lot,” Oweh said. “Really it’s just been mental and just trying to slow down the game. Obviously, I’m not trying to stay the same every year, so just trying to get better every year and focusing on ways you can improve. I think I’ve been doing that.”
Oweh has played a big part in why the Sooners have looked so much better this season compared to years past. But the best part about his game is how efficient he’s been up to this point while also being a really good defender.
Oweh is shooting 67.6% from the field while also getting 2.1 steals per game. He’s shooting a high percentage from three, too, but he doesn’t take very many. He’s only taken nine threes in eight games, making seven of them.
We’ll see if he can continue his stellar play on Saturday when the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Arkansas Razorbacks.
