Everyone knows that Conor McGregor couldn’t beat a decent boxer on his best day.
What about a 47-year-old former superstar? Oscar De La Hoya would like his chances against his MMA counterpart in a boxing ring. And De La Hoya, who hasn’t fought since Manny Pacquiao destroyed him in 2008, says he wouldn’t need much time to put McGregor away.
“Two rounds. Come on, brother. Two rounds!” Mayweather said on a recent episode of the CBS Sports’ Stage of Comabt podcast. “Because one thing about me, I went for the kill always. And look, Conor McGregor, I love him in the Octagon, I respect him, I watch him all the time. But the boxing ring is a whole different story. A whole different story.”
Of course, De La Hoya probably is just talking. And it isn’t the first time he’s talked about McGregor. He made the exact same prediction in 2017.
De La Hoya said at that time: “You know I still have it in me. I’ve been secretly training. Secretly training. I’m faster than ever, and stronger than ever. I know I could take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I’ll come back for that fight. Two rounds. Just one more. I’m calling him out. Two rounds. That’s all I need. That’s all I’m going to say.”
McGregor was stopped by Floyd Mayweather in 10 rounds in August 2017, McGregor’s only pro boxing match.
