So let me get this straight: Duce Robinson did not get picked in the 2023 MLB draft, but Oregon State quarterback and former Clemson signal-caller D.J. Uiagalelei did get drafted?
What a plot twist.
Uiagalelei hasn’t played baseball since high school, but the Los Angeles Dodgers took a flier on the quarterback in the 20th round of the 2023 MLB draft.
Given that Uiagalelei hasn’t played baseball since high school, it is reasonable to assume that he is focused on his football career. The Dodgers have approached him in the past, but D.J. hasn’t expressed a desire to participate in tryouts for the team or its minor-league system. It’s a very curious move by the Dodgers, but there is a valid thought process here: If Uiagalelei doesn’t play well for Oregon State this coming football season, and he tanks his NFL draft stock, the option of a baseball career path is there, and the Dodgers will have the rights to him.
We will see where this story goes from here.
The #Dodgers just picked #OregonState QB DJ Uiagalelei with their final pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Listed him as a two-way player too.
