Alabama’s 2020 recruiting class took a hit on National Signing Day, as four-star defensive tackle Jayson Jones flipped to Oregon after being committed to the Crimson Tide since the summer of 2018.

The in-state Calera (Ala.) native made the announcement during a high school ceremony, but then released the news via his Twitter account on Wednesday:

The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise for Alabama fans, as there had been rumors surrounding Jones for months.

With the coaching staff’s continued pursuit of four-star defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson, who committed to Texas A&M on Wednesday, there was some speculation that Jones may not fit into the long term plans.

There was also an idea floating around that Alabama may view Jones as an offensive lineman, something he clearly didn’t want to play.

With the loss of Jones, the Crimson Tide still sits with the No. 2 overall recruiting class for 2020 behind Georgia and ahead of Clemson.
