The Oregon Ducks saw their shot at an undefeated season come to an end on Saturday at the hands of David Shaw and the Stanford Cardinal, who pulled off a 31-24 win in overtime.
Some poor decision making by Anthony Brown early in the game, Mario Cristobal late in the game, and the officiating crew throughout the game helped contribute to the loss, although Stanford deserves credit for successfully executing their game plan and running the ball down Oregon’s throats.
Oregon managed to find most of their success on the ground as well, which is why running back Travis Dye has been selected as the team’s player of the game.
Dye carried the ball a whopping 19 times for 96 yards, tacking on four receptions for an additional 39 yards as well. While he did not find the end zone, his impact through the air and on the ground helped keep many Oregon drives alive, and he was counted on heavily after CJ Verdell left the contest with a lower leg injury – which could keep him out for an extended period.
Oregon will have a long time to think about this loss with a bye week coming up before they take on Cal on October 15.
