Not all scholarship offers are reserved for high school prospects. In the age of the transfer portal, it’s become common practice to keep a few scholarships handy in case a talented player comes available and is looking for a new team.
That recently became the case for the Oregon Ducks, who offered a scholarship to former Georgia Tech defensive end Jared Ivey after he entered the transfer portal. Ivey is a former 4-star recruit who has 24 total tackles and 1.5 sacks in 17 games over the past two years with the Yellow Jackets.

Ivey has impressive size, with a 6-foot-6, 225-pound frame. He held 20 offers coming out of high school in 2019 but chose to stay in his home state of Georgia.
The Ducks don’t have a massive need on the defensive line, where they return Brandon Dorlus, Bradyn Swinson, Popo Aumavae, and Keyon Ware Hudson, plus have the additions of transfer Sam Taimani and incoming recruits Ben Roberts and Sir Mells. That being said, Dan Lanning and his staff obviously see a lot of value in Ivey and want him to join the roster in 2022.
As the offseason rolls on, we will see if Ivey feels the same way about the Ducks.
