One PFF metric has new safety Juan Thornhill as one of the league’s best

The Thornhill signing is one of the most important additions so far.

A missing piece on the defense has finally added this offseason when the Cleveland Browns signed former Kansas City Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill. In Thornhill, they get the true free safety that excels in coverage they have desperately needed for three seasons.

A stat that shows how valuable Thornhill’s signing is comes courtesy of PFF. Last season Thornhill’s forced incompletion percentage was at 20% which ranked him third amongst all safeties in the NFL. Having a player that can consistently force incompletions and prevent explosive passing plays from the safety position is something the team just hasn’t had the past few seasons.

If Thornhill stays healthy he will make so many players better next season that the defense should be significantly better.
