The Washington Redsknis are in an incredible position in the 2020 NFL draft with the second overall pick.
And besides a shot at a pass rusher like Chase Young, perhaps the best thing about the position?
The potential to trade out.
Here’s what Peter King recently said on the topic, per NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay:
“I think we all believe Joe Burrow goes No. 1 to the Bengals. Now, it isn’t just Tua [Tagovailoa] who is there at No. 2. It’s also some people that are going to say, ‘I love this Justin Herbert.’ Imagine, you got Tua, Herbert, and Chase Young sitting there at No. 2. Just imagine how much leverage you might have.”
And the idea of trading out certainly has some merit. Young is an incredible talent, but the Redskins already have an elite presence there in the form of Ryan Kerrigan and now have the potential for another after already spending a first-round pick on Montez Sweat.
The real allure to trading out is hosting a fire sale to the highest bidder, where any number of teams that like Young — and teams that what a quarterback — could bump the price to historic proportions.
It’s tough to think about losing out on a prospect like Young, but when the return might be multiple future elite prospects, it makes it an easier idea to accept.
