One Colts’ executive named a ‘potential future NFL GM’

SI’s Albert Breer named one Colts’ executive as a “potential future NFL general manager.”

Sports Illustrated’ Albert Breer put out his 16th annual list of ‘hot names to watch’ as future NFL general managers, and included was Indianapolis Colts assistant GM, Ed Dodds.

Breer calls Dodds one of the NFL’s “most respected evaluators,” noting the key role he played building Seattle’s Legion of Boom defense.

Dodds was a finalist for the Panthers’ GM job last offseason and also interviewed for openings with the LA Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders.

With that said, Breer does also add that the Colts’ “uneven” 2024 season could stall Dodd’s candidacy. However, Dodds’ scouting background and resume will continue to make him an attractive option for teams.

There, of course, is uncertainty around what the future holds for current Colts’ GM Chris Ballard. In a separate article, Breer would report that there are “at least murmurs” of potential front office shuffling taking place in Indianapolis.

Perhaps, if that happens, Dodds could be an internal candidate, but oftentimes when struggling teams make a change at general manager, they go outside the building in an effort to hit the reset button to a degree.

Dodds began his executive career in 2003 with the Raiders as a scouting intern. He then held various roles with Seattle from 2007-2016 and has been Ballard’s right hand man as the assistant GM of the Colts since 2018, after serving one season as the VP of player personnel.
