The Tennessee Titans are in the midst of a very important training camp in which they are looking to completely overhaul what was a dismal offense in 2022.
We’ve tirelessly covered all of the negatives from last year’s group; however, there is at least one area on the offensive side of the ball that Tennessee hopes to carry over.
The Titans easily had the most productive goal-line (one to three yards out) offense in the NFL last season, based on EPA (Expected Points Added) per play.
According to Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis, Tennessee’s goal-line EPA was a whopping 1.06, 0.33 points higher than the next closest offense (Buccaneers, 0.73).

Of course, the Titans have the luxury of sporting a mammoth ball carrier who isn’t afraid of contact.
Derrick Henry had approximately 75 percent of the carries around that area, therefore it’s easy to understand why Tennessee was so successful.

Unfortunately, the Titans actually getting to that area of the field was a major problem, thus Tennessee still managed to finish with a bottom-five scoring offense.
I never thought I would say something like this, but let’s hope Tim Kelly can replicate the success that Todd Downing had when he was actually able to get the ball that close.
