Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. struggled in a tight win over a bad Arizona State team on Saturday night, throwing two interceptions.
That performance may have opened the door for [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] to get into the Heisman race after another huge performance in the 62-0 win over Army despite only playing in the first half.
Daniels now sits third in Heisman betting odds, per BetMGM, behind Penix and Michigan’s JJ McCarthy, the new leader. However, according to an On3 panel featuring Matt Zenitz, Jesse Simonton, Andy Staples, Charles Power and JD PicKell, Daniels is the unanimous favorite with all five ranking him No. 1.
Both Zenitz and Simonton point out that Daniels’ nation-leading quarterback rating of 204.32 exceeds even Joe Burrow’s 2019 mark, while Staples notes that Daniels’ candidacy will likely end or ramp up depending on the Alabama game.
If the Tigers upset the Crimson Tide again, this time on the road, it could very well give Daniels the inside track to the Heisman. Regardless, he’s having a prolific season and is easily in the mix for the sport’s most prestigious award after eight weeks.
