The first year at a new college football program is a bit too early for a coach to face excessive pressure, even among the Power 4 conferences, so it’s pretty safe to say [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag]’s job isn’t on the line in Durham this fall.
On3’s Jesse Simonton agrees with that sentiment. On Thursday, the national columnist ranked all 17 football coaches in the newly expanded conference based on how much pressure they’re under in 2024, and Diaz checked in at 11th.
Miami coach Mario Cristobal, who recently landed esteemed transfer quarterback Cameron Ward as he tries to win eight games for the first time with the Hurricanes. Cristobal’s team suffered arguably the most embarrassing defeat in the country last season when they tried to run instead of kneeling out the clock against Georgia Tech and fumbled, setting up a game-winning touchdown drive.
Clemson‘s Dabo Swinney, who failed to win 10 games for the first time since 2010 last season, finished second on the list. Pittsburgh’s Pat Narduzzi, North Carolina‘s Mack Brown, and Virginia’s Tony Elliot rounded out the top five.
