On to the next one: Arkansas drops LSU in SEC Tournament to make semifinals

Arkansas baseball keeps defying the odds. Thursday they sent LSU to the loser’s bracket.

Arkansas scored every single one of its runs against LSU in one inning.

Who cares.

The Razorbacks took down their arch-rival Thursday evening in the third round of the SEC Tournament, 5-4, to advance to the semifinals against No. 1 Florida on Saturday.

Arkansas batted around in the fourth inning en route to all five runs on four hits and an LSU error. It knocked out Tigers ace Paul Skenes, a future expected first-round pick, after 3 2/3 innings in which only two of the runs were earned.

Peyton Holt and Caleb Cali each went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run for the Diamond Hogs. Jace Bohrofen’s lone hit, a single, plated the final two runs of the frame.

LSU had a 2-0 lead initially having scored two runs on Arkansas starter Hagen Smith, who also lasted just 3 2/3 innings. Nine of his 11 outs recorded came via strikeout, though, proving his stuff wasn’t a problem.

Hunter Hollan was dynamite in relief. A usual starter, he had the gas to finish the rest of the game, giving up individual runs in the eighth and ninth, but striking out another eight Tigers batters.

Arkansas and Florida, both whom spent the entire year inside the Top 10 in the country, did not play this year during the regular season. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for noon.
