On this day: Pierce signs with Celts to retire; Bremer signed; Williams born

On this day in 2017, Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce signed with Boston to retire a Celtic, and former wing Eric Williams was born.

It is the birthday of former Celtics wing Eric Williams, who was drafted out of Providence College with the 14th pik of the 1995 NBA Draft. He came into this world in 1972 in Newark, New Jersey.

Williams would play seven seasons with Boston in two stints, first traded to the Denver Nuggets for draft considerations, then returning from the Nuggets with Danny Fortson, Eric Washington and draft assets for Popeye Jones, Ron Mercer and Dwayne Schintzius.

He would leave the team again in yet another deal, sent with Tony Battie and Kedrick Brown to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Ricky Davis, Chris Mihm, Michael Stewart and picks.

Williams recorded 9.2 points, 3.5 boards and 1.5 assists per game during his years with the franchise.
