On May 30, 1976, rookie center Alvan Adams scored 33 points and 14 rebounds to help lead the Phoenix Suns to a 105-98 win over the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.
Behind Adams, the Suns would cut the series deficit to 2-1 as the series shifted to Phoenix. The Suns would come back to tie the series at two games apiece but the Celtics, led by Jo Jo White and Dave Cowens, would win the next two matchups to win their 13th NBA championship.
Adams was named the 1976 NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging a career-high 19 points, 9.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in 80 games played. Adams would go on to be named an All-Star that year, his lone appearance in the annual game.
Adams spent all 13 years of his NBA career with the Suns, one of only 48 players in history to have played their entire career with one team. His No. 33 was retired by the Suns but he later granted permission to Grant Hill to wear that number in 2007.
Adams is the Suns’ all-time leader in games played, minutes, rebounds and steals.
