On this day: Bias dies; Carlisle drafted; Carr hired as coach

On this day, vaunted Boston Celtics draftee Len Bias passed away, Rick Carlisle was drafted, and M.L. Carr was hired as head coach.

Boston also hired former head coach M.L. Carr today in that role, a job he held for two seasons for a team he also represented as a player in the 1980s.

Carr’s tenure as head coach for the team between 1995 and 1997 was the effective low point in Celtics history, with one of the seasons — 1996-97 — being the worst overall win total in Celtics history with just 15 wins.

Carr would resign at the end of that season, carrying a 48-116 coaching record, good for the worst winning percentage of all time among franchise head coaches with a .293 winning percentage.
