On this date: Kobe passes Michael Jordan in one statistical category

Fifteen years ago on this date, Kobe Bryant achieved a historic scoring milestone that not even Michael Jordan ever claimed.

Late in the 2006-07 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers were struggling so much that it looked like they may miss the playoffs for the second time in three years.

They were on a seven-game losing streak and had dropped 13 of their last 16 games.

Something needed to be done. Luckily, Kobe Bryant was at his apex.

He responded by going on a brief, but ridiculous scoring streak that would stop the bleeding and ensure the Lakers would get back to the postseason for the second year in a row.

Although the team was certifiably mediocre, Bryant got it to play above the sum of its parts.
