North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton returns for another season in Chapel Hill as not only the best player on the Tar Heels’ offense but as one of the top players in the country overall.
After a breakout year in 2023, Hampton is looking to get better in 2024 and take a step forward in his development. He will be the focal point of UNC’s offense that is going through a quarterback battle and Chip Kelly should lean on him a lot. That could be a good thing for his draft stock.
Going into this opening weekend of college football, CBS Sports has released its top 25 NFL draft prospects to watch for this season. Making the list was the UNC running back:
Hampton has ideal size for a feature NFL running back and has shown an ability to impact the pass game, in addition to his 1,504 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Hampton accelerates quickly and has good balance through contact. The North Carolina native does a good job planting his foot in the ground and getting north.
Hampton was one of five players from the Atlantic Coast Conference to make the list and only one of two running backs from the conference on it. If Hampton has a big year again in 2024, his draft stock should continue to climb.
