Ole Miss player files federal lawsuit against university, Lane Kiffin

DeSanto Rollins claims he was not provided proper care for mental health issues he suffered from before the 2022 season.

An Ole Miss football player has filed a federal lawsuit against the university and head football coach Lane Kiffin, Clarian-Ledger reported Thursday.

Defensive tackle DeSanto Rollins, who is still listed on the team’s online roster, said he suffered from mental health issues before last season. The Louisiana native alleged the university did not provide the care he needed.

The lawsuit said Kiffin met with Rollins once in February when he “yelled at Rollins in a hostile and verbally threatening tone.” In March, the two met again, and Kiffin kicked Rollins off the team.

The lawsuit also alleged Rollins suffered a concussion during the 2022 spring game, but the Ole Miss staff didn’t refer him for a mental health evaluation as a result. Rollins filed the lawsuit in federal court.

In a statement from the university, Ole Miss claims to have never received a lawsuit.

“(He) remains on scholarship,” the release from Ole Miss states. “In addition, he continues to have the opportunity to receive all of the resources and advantages that are afforded a student-athlete at the university.”
