OL Jackson Barton placed on IR as Cardinals make roster moves before game vs. 49ers

The Cardinals made a few roster moves Saturday ahead of their final game of the season.

On Saturday afternoon, the Arizona Cardinals announced a few roster moves ahead of their final game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers.

Tackle Jackson Barton, who started last week at right tackle, injured his ankle this week and now will miss the game. He was placed on injured reserve.

To replace him on the roster, the Cardinals signed safety Andre Chachere from the practice squad to the active roster. He will be the fourth active safety on Sunday and play special teams.

They also elevated two players from the practice squad, bringing up tackle Luke Tenuta and running back Tony Jones Jr.

Tenuta presumably will be the Cardinals’ backup swing tackle. Kelvin Beachum will start at left tackle and it appears that rookie Christian Jones will make his first NFL start at right tackle after making his debut last week in playing six snaps against the Rams.

Jones gives the Cardinals three running backs for the game, joining Michael Carter and DeeJay Dallas.

Carter is expected to start. We will see who gets the primary backup role and who gets the third-down back role between the two. Dallas has been the third-down back since Emari Demercado was placed on injured reserve.

The 49ers announced a few roster moves as well. They placed guard Spencer Burford and linebacker Demetrius Flanagan-Fowles on injured reserve. Both had been ruled out on the team’s final injury report.

They signed linebackers Alex Barrett and DaShaun White from the practice squad to the active roster and elevated offensive lineman Drake Nugent and receiver Trent Taylor from the practice squad for Sunday.

The Cardinals and 49ers kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET at State Farm Stadium on Sunday.
