Three-peat.

Oklahoma has now gone three consecutive years with their quarterbacks being awarded Big 12 male athlete of the year.

Baker Mayfield (2017-18), Kyler Murray (2018-19), and now Hurts completes the trifecta for the Sooners.

In Hurts’ lone season at Oklahoma, he threw for 3,851 yards, rushed for 1,298 yards and accumulated 53 total touchdowns en route to a runner-up Heisman finish and the Sooners’ fourth College Football Playoff appearance.

In the 24-year history of the Big 12, 14 Sooners have been bestowed the honor. This is the third time in five years that Oklahoma has swept both the male and female awards. Maggie Nichols and Mayfield did so for the 2017-18 awards and Buddy Hield and Paige Parker sweeping the 2015-16 awards.

Hurts was the first quarterback in Oklahoma history since Darrell Shepard (1981) to lead the team in scoring and the first quarterback since Charles Thompson (1988) to lead the team in rushing. His 5,149 total yards of offense is good for second-most in school history.

Drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, Hurts is now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
