Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts, CeeDee Lamb go home empty handed after Home Depot College Football Awards Show

For the first time since 2015, the Sooners did not collect any hardware from the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.

For the first time since 2015, the Sooners did not collect any hardware from the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.

Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb were present in Atlanta for the show as finalists for the Maxwell (Hurts), Davey O’Brien (Hurts) and Biletnikoff (Lamb) awards.

Hurts lost out on the Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year and the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award to LSU’s Joe Burrow, who is also expected to win the Heisman at the Heisman Trophy Presentation on Saturday night.

Lamb lost out on the Biletnikoff Award for the most outstanding receiver in college football, also to an LSU player in receiver Ja’Marr Chase. This one, though, came with a little bit of pushback as Lamb has single-handily looked like the best receiver in college football with Chase having the season-long stat advantage and consistency.

In 2016, Oklahoma’s Dede Westbrook won the Biletnikoff Award and started a three-year streak of Oklahoma winning a postseason award at the Home Depot College Football Awards show. Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray took home their share the last two seasons before winning the Heisman Trophy.

Jalen Hurts will have one more trophy presentation to go through with the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in New York City.
