Bedlam does come with a bit of a cloud over it.
During Oklahoma’s 41-13 win on Saturday night, an Oklahoma State equipment manager was allegedly assaulted by Sooners’ fans in the north end zone at the game. Sooners Wire reached out for comment from the University of Oklahoma on the situation on Sunday night and was given one on Monday at 12:19 p.m. CT.
At Oklahoma home games, there is a tradition in the north end zone that an opponent’s field goal attempt ends up in the stands, the football gets thrown up the seats to the top of the stadium and then out of it. After the last field goal before halftime of Bedlam on Saturday, Oklahoma State’s field goal attempt was good and landed above the first section of fans at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Here is the statement from Oklahoma’s athletic department.
“The OU Athletics Department is aware of the interaction during Saturday night’s game between some fans and an Oklahoma State team staff member,” the statement read. “The matter was immediately turned over to the OU Police Department and is under investigation with the athletics department’s full cooperation. No matter the outcome of the investigation, physical contact by any fan with an employee of any team is unacceptable. The department condemns the behavior of the involved fans, and once the individuals are identified, they will be banned from attending any future OU Athletics events.”
