Oklahoma is going to be right in the thick of the College Football Playoff race for the sixth-straight year, and the first major poll of the 2020 college football preseason backs that up.
The Sooners will begin the 2020 college football season ranked No. 6 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. This is the fifth-straight year that Oklahoma is ranked inside the preseason Amway Coaches’ Poll top-10.
Here is how the rest of the poll came out:
- Clemson
- Ohio State
- Alabama
- Georgia
- LSU
- Oklahoma
- Penn State
- Florida
- Oregon
- Notre Dame
- Auburn
- Wisconsin
- Texas A&M
- Texas
- Michigan
- Oklahoma State
- USC
- Minnesota
- North Carolina
- Utah

Lincoln Riley and his 2020 team will be breaking in a new quarterback for the fourth-straight year. Spencer Rattler is the presumed starter—the former No. 1 quarterback and five-star recruit out of the 2019 recruiting class. He’ll be surrounded by an experienced offensive line, a deep H-back, tight end room and returning skill players like Kennedy Brooks, Charleston Rambo and Theo Wease.
Alex Grinch and his defense will need to replace production from star linebacker Kenneth Murray, defensive tackle Neville Gallimore and corner Parnell Motley. His first recruiting class landed elite players at corner (Joshua Eaton), safety (Bryson Washington) and defensive tackle (Perrion Winfrey), but the questions remain and depth in the secondary and at linebacker remain a huge question mark.
As it stands on Aug. 6, Oklahoma is scheduled to begin the 2020 season on Aug. 29 against Missouri State at home. That can and will likely change after the Big 12 announces its schedule for the 2020 season.
