For the fifth year in a row, OU will open the season within the AP Poll’s top 5. OU is set to debut at No. 5, coming in one vote behind No. 4 Georgia.
Strangely, the poll considers all FBS teams, whether they will be playing football this fall or not. Currently, nine different ranked teams have already postponed or canceled their fall season.
OU has started the season in the top 10 18 times in the last 20 years. They began the season ranked No. 4 last year, eventually finishing 12-2 with a Big 12 Title and College Football Playoff appearance.

Especially under Lincoln Riley, OU has become no stranger to lofty preseason expectations. The high ranking is well-deserved, but don’t expect it to go to the Sooners’ heads.
