The Oklahoma Sooners have been working to retool their offensive line this offseason after losing five players who started games for the Sooners in 2023. They’ve been hard at work in the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag].
They’ve added Spencer Brown from Michigan State and are trending in a favorable direction for Brown’s former teammate Geno VanDeMark. On Friday, OU added another option for their offensive line, earning a commitment from UNT transfer Febechi Nwaiwu.
Nwaiwu started 20 games over the last two seasons, including eight in 2023 for a Mean Green offense that was No. 23 in the nation in scoring at 34.5 points per game. He’s played primarily at right guard during his collegiate career, with just over 1,600 collegiate snaps to his ledger.
Nwaiwu was a freshman All-American back in 2022 and earned All-Conference honors in the American Athletic Conference in 2023 despite missing time due to injuries. New Sooners offensive coordinator Seth Littrell was the head coach at North Texas when Nwaiwu earned a spot as a walk-on back in 2021.
With his experience at right guard, Nwaiwu could slide right in and take McKade Mettauer’s spot. But as the Sooners look to continue adding offensive line talent with VanDeMark, Bill Bedenbaugh will have options along the interior.
