Another Sooner has made it to the NFL. Oklahoma Sooners All-American kicker [autotag]Gabe Brkic[/autotag] has signed a three-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. He’s the most accurate kicker in Oklahoma history and one of the first kickers to have a NIL deal.
Brkic had a very successful career with the Sooners, hitting 57 of 69 field-goal attempts with only a single missed PAT in three seasons. Minnesota does have an incumbent starter in Greg Joseph, who was solid last season but seem to want to bring in some competition at the kicking position.
Brkic was a very reliable weapon for Oklahoma’s special teams, able to hit field goals from anywhere. Brkic is tied for the most 50-yard field goals hit in a single game with three.
While he can be hot and cold, when he’s hot he is unstoppable. Being able to play indoors for more than half of the season is a very attractive thing for kickers: At least eight games indoors in Minneapolis, and then at least one more at Ford Field in Detroit. The Vikings have 11 games indoors in 2022.
The Brkic was a crowd favorite during his time with the Sooners and seems like a perfect fit with the Vikings.
It’s a good thing Mexican food isn’t very popular in Minnesota. Keep him away from burritos and the Vikings might have their franchise kicker.
