Oklahoma isn’t shy about its affinity for bringing in the top receivers in the country.

The Sooners landed three five-star wide receivers in 2019, brought in Marvin Mims in 2020 and have another five-star committed in 2021. Oklahoma is vying for another five-star in the 2022 recruiting class.

Luther Burden is the No. 9 overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting class and No. 1 overall wide receiver according to Rivals. Oklahoma made his top-five schools on Saturday.

The Sooners will be up against in-state Missouri then major college football powers Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia for Burden’s signature.

Oklahoma last landed players from the greater St. Louis, Missouri, area in 2018 whenever the Sooners brought in now starting defensive end Ronnie Perkins. Starting left guard Marquis Hayes is also from the greater St. Louis area and came to Oklahoma in 2017.

Burden is just the latest recruit Oklahoma is in a fight against Ohio State, Alabama or Georgia for as top 2021 targets Camar Wheaton, Emeka Egbuka and Tristan Leigh have one of those schools in their final lists.

The Sooners already have one 2022 wide receiver committed in four-star Jordan Hudson.
