After a stunning loss on Saturday, the Sooners got some good news on Sunday.

Oklahoma has been in a lull on the recruiting trail with the last commitment coming a month ago from four-star defensive tackle Kelvin Gilliam. Due to the NCAA dead period, recruits have not been able to visit campuses on the schools’ dime, which has created a lull not just for the Sooners, but for everyone.

Four-star wide receiver Jalil Farooq ends the Oklahoma’s lull as he became the 15th commitment for the Sooners’ 2021 recruiting class on Sunday night.

Farooq is rated as the 190th best recruit in the 2021 recruiting class and the 33rd best wide receiver according to Rivals. The Upper Marlboro, Maryland, native is the eighth best recruit from the state of Maryland.

He becomes the fourth member of Oklahoma’s 2021 recruiting class that is located from the Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia area (DMV). Farooq chose Oklahoma over a final group that included Boston College, LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Maryland and Wast Virginia.

The Sooners now have three wide receivers committed in the current recruiting class as Farooq joins five-star Mario Williams and four-star Cody Jackson.

Oklahoma’s 2021 recruiting class is ranked 12th in the country according to Rivals.
