Just a handful of days after landing former five-star offensive tackle Wanya Morris from Tennessee, Oklahoma is adding another offensive line transfer in Robert Congel from Arizona.
Congel is listed at 6-foot-3, 315 lbs. from Englewood, Colorado. He attended high shcool at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Congel initially enrolled at Texas A&M before starting for two seasons at Arizona. He’s seen action at left guard, right guard and center including starting at right guard for the Wildcats in 2020.
Congel joins Morris and former UCLA lineman Chris Murray as a trio of strong contributors that transferred in from other programs. With the departure of both Creed Humphrey and Adrian Ealy to the NFL Draft, these transfer portal pickups will serve Oklahoma well in terms of offensive line depth.
Improving in the trenches will be a major priority for the Sooners entering 2021. A lack of consistency along the offensive line was the key limiting factor for Oklahoma’s offense for much of 2020.
